Born in Pittsburgh (1953), Cynthia Runzo trained as a painter in the USA ( BFA Carnegie-Mellon University) and in Rome. She has lived and worked in the North of England for nearly four decades which is the source of her inspiration. Her early years of work were mainly figurative and portrait.
Cynthia's Paintings and Drawings express continuous moving light, ever shifting colours and atmospheres, and mysterious passing of time in the Yorkshire Dales, Moors, Coast, and Cumbrian Fells and Lakes. These wild remote places are her beloved landscapes, the landscapes she enjoys walking through.
She works at chasing unpredictable light and shade with the changing seasons through fluid, spontaneous, abstracted painting techniques mostly in oils, mixed media, and charcoal drawing. Allowing the viewer to see the painting process is intrinsic to understanding the painting itself.
She lives, works, exhibits, and teaches art in North Yorkshire.
